An artist's prices are based primarily on quality, size, and reputation of the artist. Quality hopefully improves as the artist matures. Many artists are near their peak at 15-20 years of practice but further refinement is still possible. Reputation is dependent on a number of factors that help the artist become more well known, and thus, more in demand. Gallery representation is a big factor. Acceptance into juried shows, especially national level ones, is another major factor. Both of these items are partly a function of the quality of the work but also the assertiveness of the artist or his/her representative in terms of promoting the work. Self promotion is also done through advertising in major art magazines and participating in "paint outs" and art festivals. A final determinant of price is the competitive environment -- what other artists in the local area are charging for comparable work. You'll find that I am pursuing all these avenues to a greater or lesser extent. Currently, my instructors are charging anywhere from 2 times to 10 times what I charge. Since I still consider myself an "emerging artist", my prices are considerably lower but the quality is approaching many of these more known artists. As demand for my work increases, the rate and your investment will increase. I also generally include framing and sales tax. Please call for exact pricing on any particular piece. I will be happy to work with you on payments over time, PayPal payment, money order, or private check. If you saw my work originally in a gallery, please let me know which one. Thank you for your business! (Patrons like yourselves are what keep artists working -- your personal contribution to keeping art alive in the world!)
