I generally start my landscapes outside, Plein-air, and then finish them in the studio from digital photos taken onsite.  This impressionistic style is all about capturing the moment, the weather, and the feeling of the place.  New works will be appearing here regularly.

"Fishing the Gorge"
12x9 Oil on Linen Board

It's early morning near Arroyo Hondo, north of Taos.  And already, a few fishermen are enjoying the quiet solitude of the Rio Grande Canyon.

Juried into the "Little Gems" Show, 2006, Alla Prima Fine Art, St. Petersburg, Florida

"Ranchos de Taos"
12x9, Oil on Linen Board

How peaceful is the evening beside the St. Francis Church in Ranchos de Taos!  Shadows and Light play across these old but classic adobe forms.

Juried into the "Land and Light" Show, 2011, PAPNM, Millicent Rogers Museum, Taos, NM

"Trinity at Arroyo Seco"
9x12, Oil on Linen Board

"La Santisima Trinidad" church is north of Taos in a sleepy village called Arroyo Seco (Dry Ditch in English). The weight of the years has caused curves in it's lovely shape.  The buttresses help but also give it character.

Juried into the "Land and Light" Show, 2011, PAPNM, Millicent Rogers Museum, Taos, NM

"Santa Fe Gate"
12x16 Oil on Linen Board

Summer mornings in Santa Fe lead us down wandering streets, just off Canyon Road.  Inspiration comes easily as we imagine what may lie beyond those inviting gates and walls.

"Ancient Arroyo"
9x12 Oil on Linen Board

Juried into the Angus McDougall Gallery, 2005-6

Arroyos (dry streams) are usually sand, but this one is layered rock, near where the dinosaur bones are found.  It's northwest of Albuquerque.

"The Blue Door"
12x16 Oil on Line Board

Summer fruits and a southwestern portal invite us to knock and come in from the bright sunshine.  Behind the blue door, we'll probably find friendly folks and a cool adobe interior.

"Trumpet"
12x9 Oil on Linen Board

Orange blooming trumpet vines, trumpet shaped Datura, and a lone hollyhock herald the morning in a classic southwestern garden.

"Los Gigantes" - The Giants
14x11 Oil on Linen Board

Striking rock formations (hoodoos) west of Grants (beyond El Morro) rise up to remind us that this is Zuni country.  Many mysteries invite us to explore.

Shown at Plein Air New Mexico annual show in Grants, NM, Mission Gallery, 2005

"Light in the Storm"
14x11 Oil on Linen Board

The old St. Francis church in Ranchos de Taos is usually painted from behind, with the rounded buttresses.  But I thought the white crosses shining against the coming storm were so lovely and so symbolic of our quest for spiritual meaning in a troubled world.

Shown at Plein Air Painters of New Mexico annual show in Taos, NM, Wilder Nightingale Gallery, 2009

Juried into the The Gallery Guild of the Cathedral Church of St. John, Albuquerque, NM, Fall 2010

"Pumpkin Truck"
11x14 Oil on Board

This old truck, on the road to Taos, has been filled with chilies and pumpkins since I was a kid.  It's still there every fall.

Original Sold but a few Giclee Prints Available

"Mesa at Dawn"
9x12 Oil on Linen Board

At dawn near the summer solstice, the sun barely kisses the mesas and the Tamaya sacred peak belonging to the Santa Ana Pueblo.

Juried into the "Little Gems" Show, 2006, Alla Prima Fine Art, St. Petersburg, Florida

"Inner Sanctum"
16x12, Oil on Linen Board

Peace and beauty reign in my springtime garden.  I can retreat here anytime in my mind, even when the flowers are long gone and the ground covered in snow.

Juried into the "Spirit of Place" Show, 2010, PAPNM, Millicent Rogers Museum, Taos, NM

"Storm Over Taos"   - SOLD
9x12, Oil on Linen Board

Once a year, plein air painters gather someplace in New Mexico to furiously capture the local scenes.  This one captivated me as I looked down on the beautiful storm over the Rio Grande Gorge.  Soon, it covered Taos with its crackling excitement.

Shown at the Annual Members Paintout and Show, July 2009, PAPNM, Wilder Nightingale Gallery, Taos, NM

"Rio Pueblo" -- SOLD
12x9, Oil on Linen Board

High in the northern mountains of New Mexico, near Penasco and the ancient Picuris Pueblo, a trout stream and cabin invite us to enjoy the autumn colors.

Juried into the "Little Gems" Show, 2006, Alla Prima Fine Art, St. Petersburg, Florida

"Chamisa Sunset"
 14x11, Oil on Linen Board

Early fall above Taos, overlooking the wide basin below.  The bushes in the foreground are chamisa with their yellow flowers.  The sunset is reflected off the "virga" in the sky -- rain that drops but doesn't touch the ground.  I still remember the wonderful smell of autumn in the high country.

"New Mexico Garden"
9x12, Oil on Linen Board

A late summer morning finds us enjoying the oasis of a well watered garden, basking in the golden New Mexico sunlight.
